What is Melanotan 2?

Melanotan 2 (often referred to as MT2) is a synthetic peptide that has been researched for its effects on skin pigmentation responsible for skin colour.

Melanotan 2 mimics the action of a naturally occurring hormone in the body that influences melanin production. Increased melanin levels can lead to darker skin pigmentation when exposed to UV light.

Melanotan 2 is typically supplied as a freeze-dried (lyophilised) powder in a small 10mg vial. Before use, it must be reconstituted (Mixed) with  one millilitre of bacteriostatic water. This involves slowly adding the water for injection to the vial and gently mixing until the powder is fully dissolved. Injections of 1mL (10 units on 1mL syringe) will give you 10 injections of 1mg of MT2.

How often do I use it?

To start with, injections are usually administered every second day, with noticeable tanning effects reported after about five doses, then administer 1 injection per week.

Steps to Reconstitute Peptides.

Reconstituting peptides is a straightforward process that ensures accurate dosing and preserves the peptide's integrity. Follow these steps carefully:

• Clean the Vial Tops:

  • Swab the rubber stoppers on both the peptide vial and the bacteriostatic water vial with alcohol wipes. Allow them to air dry.

• Draw the Solvent:

  • Using the insulin syringe, draw the desired amount of bacteriostatic water.

• Inject the Water:

  • Insert the needle into the peptide vial at a slight angle. Slowly inject the bacteriostatic water down the inside wall of the vial to minimise bubbling.

• Dissolve the Peptide:

  • Gently swirl the vial until the powder is fully dissolved. Avoid shaking the vial, as this can damage the peptide structure.

How do I inject?

Preparing for Injection

• Wash Hands: Clean your hands thoroughly with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

• Select Injection Site: Common sites include:

  • Abdomen (avoid the area around the navel)

  • Upper outer thighs

  • Upper outer arms (if someone else is administering)

Administering the Injection

• Clean the Injection Site: Use an alcohol pad to clean the area where you will inject.

• Draw the Dose: Draw the prescribed dose into the syringe.

• Pinch the Skin: Pinch a fold of skin at the injection site.

• Insert the Needle: Insert the needle at a 45-degree angle into the fatty tissue just beneath the skin.

• Inject the Peptide: Push the plunger to deliver the medication.

Post-Injection Care

• Dispose of the Needle: Place the used syringe in a sharps container immediately.

• Monitor the Injection Site: Look for any signs of irritation or adverse reactions.

 

Important Tips

How do I store my Melanotan?

• Reconstituted peptides have a shelve life of approximately 28days and should be stored at a temperature of 2-8 degrees Celsius.

• Store reconstituted vials in the back of the fridge, not the door (which has temperature swings).

• Minimise time out of the fridge: Draw your dose quickly (under 2 minutes) and return the vial immediately.

• Protect from light: UV and visible light degrade peptides .

 

Are there any side effects?

Users report varying levels of feeling nausea when first using Melanotan. To reduce this, if this feeling is uncomfortable, add an additional 1ml water to the vial. Also inject just before bed so you can sleep while the feeling settles.
